BIRD SONG IDENTIFICATION

Recordings By Habitat

I present here a sampling of birds and their songs which are found in seven of the nine habitats in my book (Note: Some birds are found in more than one habitat, or more than one song category, but in order to cut down on multiple repetitions, a recording is presented for only one main habitat).

I use habitat as the primary focus, since it immediately provides a handy cross-reference, by linking a given song to a specific habitat. In my experience, this has proven to be a useful learning tool. The listing fiollows the order of first appearance in that habitat, as presented in my book (again, some birds have more than one entry in a given habitat). The listing also follows the "system" established in Part One of the book , moving from the simple songs to the more complex, within each habitat.

NOTE: I have added some songs that are not treated fully in my book, or are not included in the book at all. These are added at the end of a habitat category and are signified by an "N" in brackets (N).

PDF FILE: A 3-page booklet, containing brief explanations for each recording, along with the the location and month for each, is available (in PDF format) for anyone who owns a copy of my book (NOT FOR GENERAL DISTRIBUTION). As proof of ownership please include the name of one of the headings on page 22, along with your request and send to birding at aol.com. I will then e-mail the PDF file as an attachment.
